Homicide of Wilbert Jones
The Carrboro Police Department, the Family of Wilbert Jones, and Chapel Hill/Carrboro/UNC Crime Stoppers are again asking for the public's assistance in solving the homicide of Wilbert Jones, age 74, who was found dead the morning of March 7th, 1999 in his Carrboro home.
The investigation revealed that the victim had been shot once in the chest. It is believed that the murder occurred between 9:00pm and 12:00 midnight the evening of March 6th, 1999, and that robbery may have been a motive. Police are following all available leads and diligently continue to pursue the perpetrator(s). The Carrboro Police Department is committed to solving this case and is utilizing all available resources to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
Chapel Hill/Carrboro/UNC Crime Stoppers is offering an award of up to $2,000.00 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s) in the case. The Jones family and other sources have put forward an additional $7,000.00 in award money for information leading to an arrest(s) in the case.
There is currently a total of up to $9,000.00 in reward money available.
